Holy Family Gives Back
Throughout the school year, our school family gives back to our community in many ways.
Each September we do a sock drive for the needy in our community. This year 2024, we took 2,420 socks to Homeward Bound and our local Catholic Outreach. First grade won a pizza party for collecting the most (538) socks.
Each November we work with IHM in preparing Thanksgiving boxes for the needy in our community. November 2024, we helped gather food for 155 boxes that included all the ingredients for a Thanksgiving Dinner plus some additional staples. These boxes helped feed about 830 people.
Every winter we help the Knights of Columbus, #1062, of St. Joseph Catholic Church, with their annual Coats for Kids Drive.
As of January 16, 2024, we helped collect the following:
- 78 jackets/coats
- 24 warm hats
- 28 pairs of gloves
- 15 scarves
- 7 snowpants
Every Friday during Lent, our school participates in Casual for Charity as a practice of almsgiving.
Students may dress casually (as long as the clothing is appropriate) if they bring in a donation for the organization HFCS is supporting.
The students are encouraged to give from their own pockets.
The organizations our school supported this 2023 Lent are:
- Local Catholic Outreach (2/16) - $1,214.45
- Western Slope Blue Star Mothers for the VA Hospital March Baby Shower (2/23) - $968.74 and baby items were collected.
- Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in Fruita (3/1) - $858.39
- Karis Inc., in support of the local teen homeless shelter (3/8) - $1,059.66
