James Morton

Teacher, 5th Grade

My name is James Morton, and I am one of your new fifth grade teachers. I was born and raised in Grand Junction and have spent most of my life in the valley. I have taught for the district for 31 years before retiring and moving overseas to teach in Sanya, China and Yangon, Myanmar. The last year was difficult for everybody with being forced to teach online due to COVID. My wife and I returned from Myanmar after the military coup became too dangerous to stay where I continued to teach my students online at an extremely late hour. During my career I have taught 1st grade through 5th grade and am continually learning from my students and colleagues. I have a Masters in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Educational Leadership and Principal Licensure.

My wife and I are avid outdoors people. We love biking, hiking, trail running, mountaineering and technical climbing (to name a few). Western Colorado is an amazing place to get out and enjoy the beautiful surroundings we are blessed to have. I look forward to getting our students out and incorporating our standards into ventures out into nature. I truly look forward to working with the parents, staff and students of Holy Family.
